The south side of Scenic Acres drops into the Bow River valley. A ravine pathway runs along the edge, and homes on the high streets look out to the Rockies and the Paskapoo Slopes.

The Scenic Acres Community Association runs the community centre at 8825 Scurfield Drive NW, with programs, day camps and a community garden of 38 raised plots. The City's Scenic Acres off-leash area is near Stoney Trail and Crowchild.

The community was redesigned in 1985 with bigger lots and fewer homes than first planned, and the main road was realigned to stop shortcutting. For shopping, Crowfoot Crossing is just across Crowchild, and the Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot is close by.

All three are inside Scenic Acres. Older students go to schools in neighbouring communities, and designations change, so check an address with the CBE's Find a School tool or the Calgary Catholic School District before you buy.

Crowfoot station is in the Crowchild Trail median, and Scenic Acres reaches it by a pedestrian overpass. There is no road access to the station from this side, so you get the train without the station traffic. Calgary Transit lists park and ride stalls on its park and ride page.

This is a walkout community. About 54% of recent detached sales were walkouts, more than double the share next door in Silver Springs. The typical detached home is about 1,969 sq ft above grade, and bungalows and split-levels make up a good part of the mix alongside two-storeys.

Most homes were built in the 1980s and 1990s, so a lot of the value is in what's been updated. Poly-B plumbing shows up in some listings from this era. Ask the seller, and have it inspected. Homes that have already been renovated sell at the top of the range.

Scenic Acres has a higher all-homes benchmark than Arbour Lake or Tuscany mostly because it has no condos pulling the average down. Silver Springs, its older neighbour to the east, is the closest match: valley edge, mostly detached and very little supply.

For a lower price on the same side of the city, look at Ranchlands. For something newer on the west edge, look at Tuscany or Valley Ridge.
