The Valley Ridge Golf Club at 11618 Valley Ridge Park NW is an 18-hole, 7,026-yard course. It is semi-private and open to the public, with a driving range, lessons and a restaurant, so you don't need a membership to play.

The community association says more than half of Valley Ridge is green space, with trails, bike paths and the Bow River along the north side. Its volunteers built a winter outdoor rink, skating oval and pond of about 35,000 sq ft, a summer sport court for pickleball and basketball, and a free outdoor fitness park.

Everyday shopping is a short drive away. The Calgary Farmers' Market West on Greenbriar Drive and WinSport at Canada Olympic Park, with its ski hill and mountain bike trails, are both a short drive east.

There are no schools inside Valley Ridge, and students are bused to schools in nearby communities. Calgary Transit runs school routes from the community. Check an address with the CBE's Find a School tool or the Calgary Catholic School District for elementary and middle school designations.

Valley Ridge Boulevard has its own interchange on the Trans-Canada Highway, and Stoney Trail is right there on the east side, so the ring road and the mountain highway are both minutes away. The typical detached home is a two-storey of about 2,139 sq ft above grade, and every recent detached sale had a double or bigger garage. About 36% were walkouts, and bungalows made up 17% of sales. A lot of homes back onto the fairways or the ravines.

Building ran from the early 1990s into the 2000s, with a newer ridge-top section, Valley Ridge Estates, where some homes date from the 2010s. The few townhomes that sell are larger than usual, typically 1,828 sq ft.

Crestmont, just south across the highway, is newer and has even less supply. Hamptons is the other big golf course community in the NW, but its course is private and its homes run larger and pricier.

If you want the west side with schools inside the community, look at Tuscany or Scenic Acres. For a lower price close by, Bowness has older homes and the river.
